Why isn't the taxable amount of an inherited traditional IRA posting in Line 4b of the 1040? Never a problem in years past. No different this year.

Original entry of 1099R taxable amount was correct. But after saving work and reopening the return, the taxable amount was gone and the taxes due amount reduced appropriately. I used the "step by step" to redo the IRA income and it corrected to the right amount. Saved again then reopened. The return again showed no taxable income and the reduced taxes due. ???

Go back and double check your 1099-R data entry in Federal > Wages ad Income > Retirement.  You may have accidentally checked the Rollover or QCD box.  Do any words (such as Rollover or QCD) appear on line 4b of the tax return?

No that wasn't the problem. Some how Line 4b populated and I saved the return and efiled. Saved copy showed Line 4b was okay.
