Why isn't my military retirement pay exemption showing up for Louisiana? It showed for 2021.

In 2021 on my Louisiana tax form lines 4A and 4H showed my retirement pay exemption. For tax year 2022 lines 4A and 4H says 0 for my exemption.

You need to exclude this from your LA state tax return when you prepare it.

  1. Select your state taxes tab to begin working on your return.
  2. As you begin working on your return, you will reach a screen asking if there are any other income exclusions, here is where you will enter your military pay  exclusion.  Here is what this screen looks like.

I'm thinking it should be taken care of Automatically

BUT only..IF...you properly indicated the proper LA distribution amount when you entered yoru 1099-R in teh Federal section.

When the follow-up page asked "Where is This Distribution From? ....you should have selected the 4E selection...and then entered the distribution amount in one of the boxes below....if you entered a zero either there (or in box 16 of the 1099-R), then zero is exempted.  The proper box 16 value, or Distribution amount is the same as box 2a of the 1099-Rm if 2a has a valid positive number in it  (Likeley the same as box 1)
