Why is TurboTax making me take the savers credit when I haven't contributed to a retirement account. It's giving me a $7 credit and making me upgrade. What gives??

Please check your W-2. 

You may have had a contribution to a 401(k) plan through your employer. 

 

You earned the credit, but if you don't want the credit, and don't want to upgrade, you can "trick" the software by saying you are a student (in the Personal Info Section).

(Student cannot get the credit)

 

You also have the option to use IRS Free File if that would work for you.
