Why is there no 1099R for military retired pay? Does Turbo tax take this into account that Iowa doesn't tax military retired pay?
What do you mean no 1099R? Those documents may not make it to you until the end of January or early February.
What do you mean no Form 1099-R for military retirement? Go to DFAS - <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.dfas.mil/retiredmilitary.html">https://www.dfas.mil/retiredmilitary.html</a>
The 1099R on Turbo tax has only options for 401k IRA withdrawls, RR pensions and civil service pensions but there is no place for military retired pay and this is different because the state of Iowa doesn't tax military retired pay, the others mentioned above are taxed by the state. So clearly there is a different way to calculate this from the other 1099R's. As for getting the 1099R information I got it from the mypay site and don't have to wait until the end of January.
Iowa doesn't tax any retirement pay if you are over the age of 55 or disabled so to Iowa all the 1099-R regular distributions are the same.
In the "My Info" section did you indicate that you were retired military ? If you did then in the Iowa interview it brings up the question of the military retirement.
Military retirement/pension payments are no different then civilian retirement/pension payments. It is all entered on IRS Form 1040 Line 16 or Form 1040A Line 12
