Why is there disaster distribution at the end of my filing, and how do I take it off?

Please try the following steps if you are having trouble with disaster relief.

Go to Wages & Income

  1. Click I'll choose what I work on

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the section without making any changes and click Done with Income

  3. Continue moving forward until you see a question about whether you took a disaster distribution in 2020 and select 'No'

  4. Run the Federal Review again to see if the error has cleared

If you have tried these steps and you did not see a question about the disaster distributions in 2020, then repeat the steps for the Deductions & Credits section of your return until the question is located.

Go to "Wages & Income"

  1. Scroll down to "Retirement Plans and Social Security

  2. Open "IRA, 401(K) Pension Plan Withdrawals(1099-R)"

  3. Select "Continue" (you don't need to add any income forms)

  4. Question: "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2021?"

  5. Answer: "Yes"

  6. Question: "Did either of you take a disaster distribution at any time between 2018 and 2022?"

  7. Answer: "No"

You should be able to e-file after answering the two disaster distribution questions in this manner.
