Why is my social security tax withheld (box 4) showing up as box 14?

There is no Box 14 on the SSA-1099, so what form are you referring to when you say "box 14"? See this SSA website for samples of SSA-1099 forms.

I think you are referring to Form W-2.  What makes you think an entry in that box is for Social Security Payroll Tax withholdings?  You may need to ask your employer

It on my W2.  It's only happening on one of them and I have 2 from the same company - and I've deleted it and tried again.  I've not imported it.

It's showing up as entry as a Railroad Tax and it's telling me that I'm owed a refund.  I don't have anything in Box 14 at all, either on my paper W2 or on the digital.  The amount ($518) is showing up and the only place I have entered $518 is from Box 4.

Delete that W2 and re enter it manually.  That should clear something out.

Or why do you have 2 W2s from the same employer?  That is not common.

If the EIN number is the same and you work in more than 1 state or city, sometimes they will give you another W2 with the extra state information on it and the top part the same or not filled in.  If this is the case, list one W-2 but include both state or local  taxes on it.  It will let you type in more than one line for boxes 15-20.  Don't add the boxes together.

Same for boxes 12 & 14 if there is no room on the first W2 they can give you another W2 with the extra boxes on it.  So list them all on 1 W2.  For box 12 just enter it in the next row or box.  It doesn't have to match the box 12a-d etc.

That worked!  I have 2 from the same "employer" because it actually a third party sick pay.  I added them together and the Railroad Tax did not show up.
