Why is my pension income not taxed

my 1099R in box 2 has UNKNOWN in box 2a

First of all, make sure you checked that you are entering a CSA-1099 on the first screen in the interview.  

After that, leave the field with UNKNOWN blank.  Continue on after entering the form to answer all the questions following.  

If you have a code of 4 in Box 7, and you said you were below retirement age for the plan, the taxable amount will show on line 7 as wages, not as retirement income.

If the box 2a has the word UNKNOWN or a zero  and the box 2b is checked then you MUST leave box 2a BLANK.
