When will turbotax update the new filing deadline? I just went in to change my payment date and it won't accept May 27, 2021 as a correct date.

When will the new filing deadline be updated?  I just tried to change my date to May 17 and it wont accept it.

TT is still showing the old deadline on its cover sheet for the personal tax returns to be filed. Official IRS web site says NEW deadline is May 17 for the PERSONAL TAX RETURN ONLY !!!

NOTE: Estimate payments, if you have any, are still due on their normal dates which means the first voucher 1040-ES is still due on April 15.

TT has yet to fix its wrong deadline date and it has failed to notify users of the above information regarding the estimated payment deadlines too. And when I spoke with a TT rep, they gave me the WRONG information. BEWARE !!!!

Best to go to IRS web site: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/tax-day-for-individuals-extended-to-may-17-treasury-irs-extend-filing-and-payment-deadline

NOTE THE FOLLOWING from the IRS official web site posted on 3/17/2021:

"IR-2021-59, March 17, 2021

WASHINGTON — The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service announced today that the federal income tax filing due date for individuals for the 2020 tax year will be automatically extended from April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021. The IRS will be providing formal guidance in the coming days."

and

"This relief does not apply to estimated tax payments that are due on April 15, 2021. These payments are still due on April 15. Taxes must be paid as taxpayers earn or receive income during the year, either through withholding or estimated tax payments. In general, estimated tax payments are made quarterly to the IRS by people whose income isn't subject to income tax withholding, including self-employment income, interest, dividends, alimony or rental income. Most taxpayers automatically have their taxes withheld from their paychecks and submitted to the IRS by their employer."

TurboTax updated to allow tax due payment dates from 4/16/21-5/17/21, The IRS E-file Servers have not yet been updated for Tax due payment dates up until 5/17/21.

TurboTax expects to hear on Monday when the IRS e-file servers will be updated.

Turbotax Home and Business has not been updated. Cannot enter anything after 4/15 for payment.

The IRS E-file Servers have not yet been updated for tax due payment dates up until 5/17/21 therefore TurboTax is waiting on their update to avoid the rejection of returns. Once TurboTax gets the confirmation from the IRS that their servers are ready then TurboTax will implement their update.

I'm a new forum user. I want to **Mark the post that answers your question by clicking on "Mark as Best Answer", that is, @DanaB27 's reply, but I don't find where to do that.

TurboTax continues to fail to fix its cover instruction sheet to state the correct deadline to file the personal income tax returns.

Some states such as Okahoma have deadlines of 06-17-2021 which includes state and federal due to the winter storm.   fyi

Thank you DanaB27. Is there an estimate for how long it will take TT to update the software after they receive confirmation from IRS e-servers? Is this a simple 1-2 day software fix, or will it take 1-2 weeks after you get confirmation? Also, when is the estimate of when IRS e-servers will be updated (understand this is out of your control).

you said the TT updated the deadline to 17 May. That is not true. I tired to file my taxes and when I entered 05/17/2021 TT says the date is wrong.

I just went to the IRS websites and it allows me to select May 17 as the date to pay my 2020 Taxes. Something is not right with your answer.

Found out it's the IRS hadn't updated their system with the new date therefore your tax return will kick back as reflected until the IRS gets it changed.  Think its supposed to get updated tomorrow.  I'm gonna try to re-file then.  We'll see.

TurboTax continues to fail to fix its COVER INSTRUCTION SHEET to state the correct deadline to file the FEDERAL personal income tax returns or to emphasize that the Estimated Payment deadlines are unchanged.

The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service announced today that the federal income tax filing due date for individuals for the 2020 tax year will be automatically extended from April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021. The IRS will be providing formal guidance in the coming days.

Individual taxpayers can also postpone federal income tax payments for the 2020 tax year due on April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021, without penalties and interest, regardless of the amount owed. This postponement applies to individual taxpayers, including individuals who pay self-employment tax. Penalties, interest, and additions to tax will begin to accrue on any remaining unpaid balances as of May 17, 2021. Individual taxpayers will automatically avoid interest and penalties on the taxes paid by May 17.

This relief does not apply to estimated tax payments that are due on April 15, 2021. These payments are still due on April 15. Taxes must be paid as taxpayers earn or receive income during the year, either through withholding or estimated tax payments. In general, estimated tax payments are made quarterly to the IRS by people whose income isn't subject to income tax withholding, including self-employment income, interest, dividends, alimony, or rental income.
