When can I file my 1099-R: 2024 Disaster Distribution?

Error code states: Form 1099-R: 2024 Disaster Distribution Checkbox- You can't file just yet. This may mean a better tax outcome for taxpayers like you who have 2024 Qualified Disaster Distributions. We can keep working on your tax return and we'll let you know when we can help you finish up your taxes. What does this mean? Do we have an idea of how long I have to wait to file my taxes now?

Biden signed a law in Dec that is retroactive to 2019 regarding all disasters. We are waiting on federal and state agencies to let us know when we can finalize our forms for you. Please check forms availability here.

No, you must continue to check back for updates to your TurboTax program. Run all updates to the program when you open it.

You can check forms availability here.

If you have additional information or questions regarding this, please return to Community and we would be glad to help.

The form still is not available. It’s the 20th. Anyone know when we will be able to file? Keep getting the same message that I need to revisit this section.

I can’t file here either. They did mention the form would be ready to file today (2/20) and getting the same message. If this keeps going, I may have to file elsewhere….

Hi,

Everyone should contact TurboTax via phone (no matter the long hold time) and request that their calls be escalated, we need to get the attention of their developers. To receive generic post responses regarding this ongoing issue is not acceptable. We work all year around and deserve to file our taxes timely. I have encountered this error message for the last two months (in counting). This is not an issue with their website nor web browser, it's an internal issue that their developers are likely well aware of.

Upon reaching out to TurboTax by phone, if you choose not to withstand their long hold time, everyone should consider posting complaints regarding this issue on their social media walls (as well as send them messages) via the following social media profiles:

I called days ago, they recommended I go to another filer. I did go to HR Block and ran the numbers. They were the same. With no error message. But, I like my stuff all in one place. So I came back and unchecked the box QD2024 and everything fixed itself. I filed with Turbotax. That worksheet will not save you any money. At least not in my case. I am over 59 1/2 and withdrew for disaster help. However, I don't pay the 10% penalty anyway. I am responsible for the taxes on the withdrawal regardless. Now, if you are not old enough to withdrawal you might have to go elsewhere as they recommended.

I chatted with a live customer service person this morning and they said the date it will be ready is February 27th.

Please don't tag my username "turbotax" with the "@" symbol on this community here.  I am just a regular user (taxpayer). 🙂   As for the other social media platforms, let it rip!

Thank you for this information @trboTX. I was under the impression that your tag was the official representation of TurboTax. I have edited my post, accordingly.

@AmyC
@LindaS5247

Help please!

I updated today (2/27/2025) and now the 2024 Qualified Disaster Retirement Plan Distribution question (which said the capability to enter the data soon) is gone! Only 2021, 2022, 2023 are mentioned and we don't even get the coming soon message!

The program is actually regressing in capability!!

The 8915-F form has been showing as available on TurboTax's website for a while now. Please elevate this issue, it seems to have fallen off the software team's radar!!

Any update. 1.5 months until taxes are due.

Has anyone been able to contact support?  Are we going to be able to file, or should we look to go somewhere else?  Has anyone tested HR Block or any other programs?

Basically, aren't we taking about saving $2200 in penalties? Yeah, I'll wait. Just get it right!

The message isn’t popping up anymore; however, the refund didn’t change from before. Shouldn’t it be different since for disaster recovery there isn’t the additional penalty??
