What would the PA Distribution type if I received a check for my moms retirement plan from an old job because she passed away?

I received a letter stating that my mothers old job was switching retirement plan companies and that her beneficiaries (my sister and I) would be receiving a check, also because she had passed away. I can’t complete my filing because I need to enter a PA distribution type but none of them make sense to me.

Your 1099-R you received should have a distribution code of 4, indicating death.  Once entered in the federal section it should carry to PA effortlessly.  PA does not tax retirement income so there should not be a taxable even for your PA return.
