what happens if I die does my social security benefit go to my spouse

Hello, Yes, If a person dies, the spouse is covered under the Social Security Survivor's Insurance program.  If your spouse has then reached the full retirement age, they will receive 100% of the deceased spouse's benefits. If your spouse will be at least 60 but not yet at Social Security's definition of "full retirement age," their payout will be somewhere in the range of 71% to 99% of the deceased spouse's full benefit. Note that a widow or widower of any age with a child under age 16 is entitled to a 75% payout.
