What does this mean exactly “Returns with Department of Social Services Application of Eligibility form attached box checked on form MO-1040 are not eligible for e-file?”

It means that you answered Yes on the screen titled Renewing benefits with the Department of Social Services and will need to print and mail in forms with the Missouri tax return? 

That means you have said you need to attach a renewal application for:

• Temporary Assistance (TANF)
• Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
• MoHealth
• Childcare Subsidy Program
   

If that is not what you meant to do, you can change the answer to that question:

1. Sign in to your TurboTax account.
2. Select State Taxes.
3. Select Pick up where I left off, or Edit.
4. Select Edit to the right of Missouri.
5. Continue until you get to Renewing benefits with the Department of Social Services and will need to print and mail in forms with the Missouri tax return?
6. Answer No.
7. Continue until you get back to the State summary.
8. Select Let's check it over.
9. Address any error messages that come up.
10. Continue to the File section to e-file your state return.

This screen appears near the beginning of your Missouri state interview - "Renewing benefits with the Department of Social Services and will need to print and mail in forms with the Missouri tax return?"

If you don't have any of the forms listed, be sure to click NO.

If you cannot get past that error and dont want to paper file, you can delete the MO 1040 and answer the tanif question NO instead, makes for a quick fix! 🙂

Can I still go back in and change this if I already filed. Would I have to amend my taxes?

Yes, you will need to amend your tax return to make the needed changes..
