What do I do if I forgot to include 1099r income on my 2017 taxes?

I've already filed my tax return.

Once a tax returned has been filed, you cannot make changes.  If  you have realized that you have made a mistake (example: forgotten to report a W2), your job now is to wait to see if the IRS accepts it.

·        If the IRS accepts your current year tax return, you will want to submit an amended 2016 tax return to correct the tax return.

·        If the IRS rejects your current year tax return, you will have the opportunity to fix the mistake using TurboTax and then e-file the corrected version.

To check the status of your tax return, use the "Where's my Refund" tool provided by the IRS in the following link.https://www.irs.gov/Refunds

Important:  TurboTax can help you file your amendment.  To learn more about amending your tax return, please review the information in the following link. https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1908543-do-i-need-to-amend-my-tax-return

Click or tap a tax year for specific amending instructions.

·        2017 - instructions will be available in late January or early February 2018

·        2016

·        2015

·        2014

You will need to wait until the original filed return is processed, and then file an Amended return reporting the 1099R.

If you haven't efiled or mailed it yet you can go back and add or change anything you need.  Click on Add a State to let you back into your return.

The easiest way to get to the 1099-R entry screen is to simply search for 1099-R (upper- or lower-case, with or without the dash) in your TurboTax program and then click the "Jump to" link in the search results.

Enter a 1099R under

Federal Taxes on the left side

Wages & Income at the top

Then scroll way down to Retirement Plans and Social Security,

Then IRA, 401(k), Pension Plans (1099R) - click Start or Revisit

If you are filing a Joint return be sure to pick which person it is for.
