TurboTax has a computing problem. It will not compute my "out of state" work as a credit (Line 43 NYS) from form IT-201-R, says I owe $2000+ in taxes

Actually I get a $400 refund using state forms

1. Are you a resident of NYS?

2. You were working on another state, like New Jersey?

3. Did you enter the data for the nonresident state first, then enter the data for New York state?

This is how TurboTax knows about the tax paid to another state, by you doing the nonresident state first, so that the tax paid there carries to New York State. I am assuming that you did New York State first.

Try going through the New York State interview again, to see if that will pull the other state's taxes in. Otherwise, if you can, delete New York State and re-add it.
