You need to go back to the Retirement Income section in TurboTax.   Check the entry for that 1099R and change the amount in Box 2 which is your Taxable Amount.   We could guide you on how to fix this but we do not know what Turbo Tax program you are using in order to be able to give you the steps to fix it.

What is the code in box 7 of the Form 1099-R provided by the payer?
Is the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box marked?
Is an amount shown in box 2a?
Is box 2b Taxable amount not determined marked?

Is the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box marked?  No box with that description
Is an amount shown in box 2a?     Yes. The Taxable Amount
Is box 2b Taxable amount not determined marked?    It is not marked

This was the first year Turbo Tax made this error

Erroneously marking the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box in TurboTax would likely cause TurboTax to treat the box 1 amount as the taxable amount.  Otherwise it's likely that TurboTax is including only the box 2a amount on Form 1040 line 4b as the taxable amount.  The amount in box 2a would generally be less than the box 1 amount only if the remainder of the box 1 amount was shown in box 5 or box 6.

Sometimes making changes messes thing up.   Try delete the 1099-R and re-enter it.

I'll try replacing the 1099-R and let you know.  Inserting the sameTaxable Amount in the Gross Distribution Box works but I hesitate E-filing that. Thanks.

I did replace the 1099-R and Turbo Tax did pick up the Taxable Amount. Thanks.  However on the 1040 it showed only that one amount in the space for the total 1099-Rs but the full correct total Taxable Amount.
There's no one n Turbo Tax to speak with for technical problems.

The taxable amount should be on the 1040 line 4b.  Is it?

The box 1 gross distribution will show in the income summary screen since it is income, taxable or not.

It does since I took your recommendation and replaced that one 1099-R . Line 4b is correct. But now, only that one amount (out of four) for the 1099-R I replaced shows on line 4a. Strange.

IRA'a and other retirement plans are all on line 4 this year instead of two lines.  If the gross amount and taxable amount are the same, TurboTax put the taxable amount on b4 and leaves 4a blank.   When the taxable amount is less than the gross amount  the taxable amount is added to b4 and the gross is added to 4a.  That makes it look strange when all on one line.

I already entered the taxable amount in box 2a but Turbo Tax program is pulling it from box 1 gross distribution. Turbo Tax is misqualifyig American Equity and Transamerica. Maybe I'm putting this in the wrong place? They are taxing me on the whole amount in box 1 gross distribution. This is not an IRA - it came from a non-qualified annuity. I'm only supposed to be taxed on gains (taxable amount box 2a on my 1099-R that I entered on Turbo Tax. If it were an IRA yes I would have to pay taxes on the gross but my basis should be taxed in this situation (taxable amount I entered already in box 2A)

If you enter different amounts for your 1099-R for Box 1 and Box 2a, TurboTax asks several questions to determine what is the correct taxable amount.

You could delete that 1099-R and re-enter, paying close attention to the follow-up questions asked after your entry.

Here's more info on Entering Pension or Annuity Distributions and detailed info on Form 1099-R.
