The sum of boxes 2a ("Taxable Amount") of my three 1099-R forms (two pension and one 401K) is $122,585. But TurboTax is saying only $76,000 is taxable. Why is that?

It's difficult without seeing the tax return, but which one of the 1099-Rs is for +/- $46,500.  That is the one to take a second look at.  Go back through the interview and confirm you posted it correctly.

You can take a look at your tax return.

  1. On the menu bar on the left that shows.
    1. My Info
    2. Federal
    3. State
    4. Review
    5. File
  2. Select Tax Tools
  3. On the drop-down select Tools
  4. On the popup menu
  5. Select View Tax Summary
  6. On the left sidebar
  7. Select Preview my 1040.

Look at both boxes 4&5 a&b and see if you recognize a discrepancy.

To return to the entry screens press Back on the sidebar.

Yes the discrepancy was apparent in the Tax Summary and 1040, but the 1099-R information I entered was correct.

In the end, I deleted the three 1099-Rs I had entered and entered the information again, and the problem disappeared.  Too bad, I liked the incorrect big refund :).

Thanks,
