The federal income tax withheld from a non qualified plan's W-2 does not show up in 1040 line 25 for Payments of Federal Income tax Withheld or anywhere else. Why?

Did you enter a Form 1099-R as a W-2?  That is not where a 1099-R is entered.  Delete the W-2 that you entered.

To enter, edit or delete a form 1099-R -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
On IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click the start or update button

Or enter 1099-r in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to 1099-R

On the screen Did you get a 1099-R in 2023? Click on Yes

On the next screen click on Continue

On the screen Let's import your tax info Click on Change how I enter my form

On the screen How do you want to add your 1099‑R? Click on Type it in myself

On the screen Who gave you a 1099-R? select the type of 1099-R you received and Continue

OK, I will try this although the form I was given looks exactly like a W-2 and not a 1099-R...  If it makes any difference, the distribution was made because my previous employer terminated the 457(b) plan.  Thanks for your help.

Yes I did.  The form given certainly looks like a W-2 but I will try the other answer on entering it as a 1099-R.  This "income" was from a terminated 457(b) plan, if that makes any difference.

Any federal taxes withheld in box 4 of the Form 1099-R will automatically be entered by the program on the Form 1040 Line 25b as a tax payment.

I'm trying to follow your suggestions and entering it as a 1099-R.  However it wants a code:  "Select a code that matches Box 7 on your 1099-R".  Since this form is not really labeled as a 1099-R, there is no Box 7 with a code.  This form I received has a box 7 for "Social Security Tips" (As mentioned before, it is a W-2...

If you really have a W-2 then any amount of federal income taxes withheld in box 2 of the W-2 will be automatically entered on the Form 1040 on Line 25a as a tax payment.
