Tax Year Prior to 2020: Received a letter from State tax saying my social security number or itin number is wrong. I have already received my federal. How is this possible? also requesting 1099

If you have verified it is correct on the filing, the state may not be correct. The social security number is automatically transferred to the state return in the software.  It would be identical to the federal.

Don't call the number on the letter, just in case it's not authentic.  Instead contact the state via the contact information on their website.   It's possible the state got something mixed up and sent a letter out incorrectly.  OR, it's possible that a W-2 or 1099 form has the incorrect tax information on it.

Regardless, you want to get it straightened out.  When you contact the state, the first thing you want to do is verify the letter you received is from them.  Then, find out why they sent the letter to you.
