Social Security income section not working in turbotax deluxe 2024. step-by-step does not ask me to enter SS income. asks if I live in a country where SS is not taxed

Able to manually enter SS income on Forms, but step-by-step does not take me there.

I'm having the same issue with Home and Business Desktop version.   Any solutions or ETA on a solution?

We would like to try to provide a solution to this experience when using TurboTax, but we need to gather more information to try to understand what is happening.

Please tell us what version of TurboTax you are using and also whether you are using TurboTax Online or Windows Desktop or Mac Desktop.

Additionally, a diagnostic copy of your tax data file may provide some clues as well.  The diagnostic file will not contain personally identifiable information, only numbers related to your tax forms.

If you would like to provide us with the diagnostic file, follow the instructions below and post the token number along with in a follow-up thread.  If you can provide a screen shot of the token number, that will prevent the number from being redacted automatically when the system thinks it is a phone number.

Use these steps if you are using TurboTax Online:

  • Sign in to your account and be sure you are in your tax return.
  • Select Tax Tools in the menu to the left.
  • Select Tools.
  • Select Share my file with agent.
  • A pop-up message will appear, select OK to send the sanitized diagnostic copy to us.
  • Post the token number here.

If you are using a CD/downloaded version of TurboTax, use these steps:

  • Select Online at the top of the screen.
  • Select Send Tax File to Agent.
  • Click OK.
  • Post the token number here.

I'm using Home and Business Desktop Version (downloaded).   I sent the file.  The token was: 441263320-47944229.    Note, the only way I found to be able to enter this was to go directly to the form under View->Forms.   The file I sent reflects this, however, if I try to go into the form from the step-by-step or choose what you work on it still doesn't pull it up.

Thank you for providing your diagnostic file.  I was able to see the same experience you described.  However, I could not determine the cause.

There is a possible workaround that worked for me if you want to give it a try.  Even though you were able to enter the Social Security income by going to Forms mode, the preferred method is through the step-by-step process.

Try going to Forms mode and highlight the Social Sec form, then click the Delete Form choice at the bottom of the screen.  Once the form is deleted, go back to step-by-step mode and try to enter the Social Security income again.

This method worked for me, and it seemed to fix the problem of not being able to access the Social Security information through the step-by-step process.
