Should withdrawals from 403b show up as Pensions and Annuities on Form 1099-R Summary?

Only the three 403b withdrawals appear on 1040 line 4a, but all 6 are included in 1040 line 4b. The withdrawals from the 403b's all show under Pensions and Annuities instead of under Traditional IRA Distributions on Form 1099-R Summary.

A withdrawal from 403b is not a withdrawal from an IRA

Yes. This type of plan is considered a tax-sheltered annuity. Please refer to Publication 571 (HTML) for more information.

I reported 2 separate 1099 Rs and do not see either on my 1040-SR

The Form 1099-R's should be showing on Line 4c and Line 4d on Form 1040-SR. If they are not showing there:

  • Select Income & Expenses at the top of the screen.
  • Find IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R) in the list of incomes

If no amount is shown, you need to select Start or Edit/Add and review the 403(b) information you entered.
