both vanguard and fidelity provide me 1099-r with amunt in 14 (state tax witheld) but not 16(state distribution). Turbo tax will not let me efile since 14 amount is not less than 16 amount.
If your Form 1099-R does not have an amount in box 16 for a state distribution, but there is an amount in box 14 for state tax withheld, then the review message thinks there should be something in box 16.
Entering the box 1 amount into box 16 should clear the review message.
I got an email from TurboTax stating, "1099R-025 - If 'StateAbbreviationCd' is IN, the state distribution 'F1099RStateTaxGrp/StateDistributionAmt' must be greater than state tax 'F1099RStateTaxGrp/StateTaxWithheldAmt'. There is no Block 16 in my CSA-1099-R or my DFAS 1099-R so, no entries were asked for. I reviewed my saved tax returns I printed during e-file and see where TT added the Distribution amount in a Block 16 for the DFAS entries, but left the Block 16 blank in the CSA entries. The software should have pre-filled the Gross Distribution Amount, but left it blank. When I follow the Instructions from the e-mail which says,"nce you've opened your return in TurboTax, the details about what's causing the problem will be displayed." I do so but get no errors, even after updating the software to current updates. How can I fix this?
If you're using TurboTax Desktop, go to FORMS while in your return and you can manually enter the State Distribution Amount in Box 16 of Form 1099-R.
Fyi, my turbotax deluxe online version states that the 1099-R under the Federal income section will update on 1/11. As of 2/1 it hasn't updated. I've checked for online updates and still received the same update message.
The situation you described is something that is being worked on. Take a look at the following TurboTax help article for an opportunity to register your email address to receive updates.
Why am I unable to enter my state distributions in my 1099-R?
