Searching: Is my ss income 20k, added together to my retired income.

Searching: "General question, I get a retirement income of 20K and my ss income is 20k they are added together as total income. I thought SS is something we paid for while I worked for over 60 years, how come it's included in as income? "

Up to 85 per cent of your SS benefits are taxable depending on how much other income you have.
