returns rejected by IRS 3 times because of duplicate 1099-R

sWe have 2 different 1099 R forms with the same amount but from 2 different IRA account. One is from Edward H Seagraves and was downloaded from Wells Fargo and the 2nd one is from Gisela G Seagraves downloaded from Wells Fargo. Both of these were donation to our church which we also did in previous years. The 2 1099 R forms for $6,500 each represent two separate donation to our church at 2 different times in 2020 totaling $13,000. How do we tell the IRS that these are 2 different individual separate 1099 Rs from two separate accounts at 2 different times in 2020.

Is this the real problem the IRS has with our return or is there some other issue?

Please help.

Thanks,

Edward and Gisela Seagraves

That should not cause an error. I suggest you delete the 1099-R forms and re-enter them by hand. Downloading may cause issues.

Please send us a copy of your return so we can do some research.

If you're using TurboTax Desktop follow the directions below:

1. Click into your return.
2. Click Online and select "Send Tax File to Agent".
3. This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created. Click on OK, the tax file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
4. Please provide the Token Number that was generated onto a response.

If you're using TurboTax Online, follow the directions below:

1. Sign into your online account.
2. Locate the Tax Tools on the left hand side of the screen.
3. A Drop down will appear. Click on Share my file with agent.
5. This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created. Click on OK, the tax file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
6. Please provide the Token Number that was generated onto a response.

Thank you! I hope to hear from you soon.

Is there any update on this issue?

I have received the "duplicate 1099-R" rejection twice now, with two (hand-entered) 1099-Rs  identical to my 2019 return which was accepted no problem.  I don't know if it is an IRS problem or a T-Tax glitch or something I did wrong, but I don't want to file an paper return with no changes and have to wait months to find out.

I am using the T-Tax Online version.  Should I "Send Tax File to Agent". ?

Please advise!

Thanx, Bill H.

To resolve the duplicate 1099-R issue I suggest you add $1 to one 1099-R and deduct $1 from the other.  This will resolve the rejection issue and yield an identical tax return.
