Public Safety Officer 1099R

M wife is retired public safety officer and pays -$3800 for medical insurance. On the 1099R summary form line #26 is populated with $3101 even though I have put $0 in the box. This single glitch is preventing me from transmitting my taxes.

I have even eliminated her 1099 and started over with ZERO in the medical expense box and it is populated with the $3101. I am in a circle of hell I cannot get out of.

Presumably you mean line 26d of the Form 1099-R Summary.  That amount must be coming from some Form 1099-R in your tax return file.  Examine the Insurance section of each of TurboTax's 1099-R forms that are present in your tax return file.  If you are using the CD/download version of TurboTax, in forms mode right-click on the $3,101 amount and select Data Source.

@raymondh310 are you following the 1099-R EXACTLY? why are you entering $0 when the form has $3101?

Also, there is no Line 26 on Form 1099-R.

are you in the correct place in the software?

It is the form 1099R Summary that has our income listed and has a line #26 populated with $3101.

I went back to my wife's 1099 she received from her employer and deleted it and re-entered the information again and used zero because I am frustrated and want to get my taxes filed. Her actual cost of insurance is close to $3900. but the dialog box says it cannot be over $3000. If I enter a lower amount it just adds it to the erroneous $3101.

Thanks Dmertz. I right clicked as you suggested. I zeroed out a $101. insurance premium from another of my wife's retirement summaries. By zeroing out both my taxes were accepted and transmitted to the IRS. You saved me much frustration and anxiety. Again, MANY thanks.
