On the 1099R the taxable amount is larger than the gross distribution.

If this is an error message you are receiving, you would need to go back to Federal Taxes, Wage and income, retirement income  to edit the 1099-R in question.  This is usually a decimal point or comma error in your entry.  If you are saying you actually have a 1099-R form that shows a larger taxable amount than gross, that would be error made by the issuer and yo should call them for a corrected form.

I called the company and they said the amount was correct and I should ask Turbo Tax.

Just to clarify, what is the error message you are receiving?

Whatever the case may be, I would delete the entry in its entirety and reenter the 1099R input from scratch.
