On my 1099-r, there are multiple values under box 1 and 2a. There isn’t just one value underneath like other examples I have seen, I have 2 completely separate values on both of those boxes.

I saw one like this the other day - Vanguard by chance?

just sum the multiple values for each box and post as one number on the 1099R.

... but only if the distribution code for each line is the same.  Lines with different distribution codes must be kept separate.

agreed -

I saw a Vanguard form the other day where they performed an RMD distribution, but the taxpayer owned 6 different mutual funds, so they listed 6 line items WITH NO TOTALS to indicate how much was sold from each fund to satisfy the RMD requirement - this was all in one account - crazy
