On my 1099-R form says I received 34,483.02 as my Gross Distribution but I only received 23,000 from my 401k what do I do in this situation for filling my taxes?

What happened to the rest of it?  Did you roll it over to another account?   There was probably some withholding in box 4 and 17?  If you don’t know you will have to ask the plan.   Was there a loan you had to pay back?  Oh, what code is in box 7?

If your 1099-R form shows a gross distribution amount that is incorrect, you should take the following steps to address the discrepancy:

Steps to Correct the 1099-R Form in TurboTax

  1. Double-check the entries on your 1099-R form to ensure there are no mistakes. Sometimes, the discrepancy might be due to withholding taxes or other adjustments
  2. Reach out to the financial institution that issued the 1099-R to request a corrected form. Explain the discrepancy and provide any supporting documentation
