My wife and I have only Social Security income. Do we have to file a tax return?

Were any taxes withheld?

No, if Social Security benefits was you and your wife's only income in 2017, you all do not have to file an income tax return. However, if any of you received any additional income from other sources then, you would have to pay federal income tax on part of your benefits.

Here’s a link to the IRS website with more information on SSA-1099https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/are-social-security-benefits-taxable
