My total income is including Dependent Care Benefits.

My total income is X+Y where X is the total of W-2 box 1 and Y is the W-2 box 10 which is the dependent care benefit. Is that normal? If so, I believe that my total income should be X+Y+Z where Z being my wife's W-2 box 10 dependent care benefit. We are filing jointly. I don't understand why her box 10 is not being included in our income.

Box 10 of your W-2 shows the total amount of dependent care benefits that your employer paid to you or incurred on your behalf. Amounts over $5,000 are also included in box 1.

Hey Bsch, thanks for the quick response. I'm little confused. In my instance, Y is under $5,000 and Z is exactly $5,000. If we apply that $5,000 rule, shouldn't my total income be X+Z and not X+Y?

The amounts in box 10 are not included in your income.
