My pension plan is from a school district, is that a public pension or private?

Is a pension plan from a school district considered a public pension?

In most states in the U.S., public school teachers and administrators pay into the state's public employees retirement system (pension). That is not open to non-public employees.

Private school teachers typically pay into defined-contribution plans like 401(k) / 403(b) plans.
