The Payer's TIN must only be 9 digits and have no alpha characters at all.  If the Form 1099-R that you received does not have a 9 digit Payer's TIN in the format xx-xxxxxxx, then you need to contact the Payer for a corrected form.

If it's a standard 1099-R using the official IRS form, the Payer's TIN is right under the Payer's name and address.  This is the most common situation.  However, brokers/financial institutions may use their own proprietary form for their 1099's instead of the IRS standard 1099-R.   If it's a non-standard form, look it over carefully.   It may not call it a TIN.   It may label it as the Payer's EIN or "tax number", etc.

In either case, though, it should only be 9 numeric digits, but no letters.  Is it possible that you are looking at an account or reference number instead?  But if the Payer TIN does include a letter, please contact the sender of the 1099-R for clarification.  You can also try just omitting that last letter g.

TurboTax Deluxe will NOT accept the letter G that is at the end of my payer's TIN on Form 1099-R.  Note that I have contacted the payer who sent the form and they have confirmed the letter G is part of their TIN.   I believe that the TurboTax software my need updated to allow this letter.   I'm not sure how to get this accomplished?

Is the payer located in the US?  If so, the Payer's TIN must be only 9 digits.

TIN and EINs are always 9 digits.  No letters.   If there are 9 numbers in front of the G, use those 9 numbers and leave off the G.   If that doesn't work, contact the payer again and ask to speak with someone else.   TurboTax, nor any other tax software will not accept a letter as part of an EIN, TIN or SSN.   They are all 9 numbers and only numbers.   @ccotner3
