My partner received a 1099-NEC. I am filing our taxes jointly, and TurboTax keeps changing it from them to me as who it is for. I think this is a bug. How get past this?

I have tried changing it back several times, I have tried deleting it and re-adding it, but every time it gets changed back to me. Since we are filing jointly, it won't change how much tax we owe, but I don't want to upset the IRS obviously. Is there a way to manually edit the forms that will be filed? This is a bug with TurboTax itself from what I can tell.

Fixed: Contacted tech support. I was entering it in the correct area, and my understanding is that it was a software bug. It has since been fixed.

Your "Partner"?  You cannot file Joint unless you are legally married under the laws of your state, or meet certain other requirements.

Do not enter Forms 1099-NEC under 1099-MISC and Other Common Income.  Despite it being listed there and the instructions under Business Items -> Business Income and Expenses saying to enter them under 1099--MISC and Other Common Income, it doesn't work and that method of entry is unsupported.  Delete any Forms 1099-NEC that you entered under 1099-MISC and Other Common Income and instead enter them under Business Items -> Business Income and Expenses, ignoring the instruction to do otherwise.

Is there a different version (I have Deluxe) I need to have access to "Business Items"? The closest that I see is "Self Employment.

My apologies for the unclear wording. We are married.

Perhaps some fixes have been applied to the online version of TurboTax, but nothing regarding the entry of spouse's Forms 1099-NEC has been fixed in step-by-step mode of the CD/download version of TurboTax.

I’m having the same problem! What did they tell you to do to fix it?

I’ve been dealing with this all morning. I deleted all off the 1099-nec and then re-entered and they still go back in the wrong place or disappear. I think it’s a bug, I’ll have to call tech support too.

You are correct. I am using the online version. No idea if this issue is present with other versions.

I simply tried re-entering it a few hours after contacting tech-support. More specifically, in the online tool I started over (I did this to down-grade the version of Turbo-Tax I was using. I had upgraded it more than I needed in hopes of another way to enter the 1099-NEC) and when I got back to entering the 1099-NEC, it worked. I would go back and make sure it still works, but I have already filed.

I am still having this same issue.

I have updated to most recent updates.  I have the Mac downloaded version.  Every time I try to enter her 1099-NEC it changes to my name.

This was reported in 2021 (in this thread) and the "BUG FIXED"

It is NOT fixed, doing the same thing this year, and now it has taken over the ROLE/Business that has been associated with other filer (i.e. my spouse!)

That link is dead.

Can you clarify what issue you are having with your 1099?   And since this thread is old (some of the links too apparently), here is a link to start a new thread if you would like; it will be seen by more people as a 'new' thread.

Make sure you have your husband is listed as the owner of the business.   In the business profile/summary area, make sure the correct business owner is checked.
