An EIN or Federal ID number is a type of TIN.   Does it show the Federal ID number in the format

xx-xxxxxxx?

No tin. I called them even. Just the federal id number. They sent me a 1099 r and took taxes out as well so I need to post the earnings as well as the taxes taken out

TIN is a generic term.  As mentioned above, a Federal tax ID number IS a type of TIN.   The terms are often used interchangeably.  When reported to you by a company, it is a 9-digit number, and often it is shown to you formatted as xx-xxxxxxx i.e., 2 digits, a hyphen, and then 7 digits, but some companies may just show the 9 digits without a hyphen.   If it's not a 9 digit number, then what does your Payer's Federal ID number look like?

Enter the 9 digits.  The program will enter the dash automatically.

I put it in and submitted my taxes. So hopefully it is correct.
I would think if a 1099-R requires a tin, that you shouldn’t be able to have one created without one so I’m hopeful this is the case.

appreciate the answers👍

The Federal ID number is a Taxpayer Identification number (TIN), so you will be OK.
