My 1099-R does not appear to have a box for IRA/SIMPLE/SEP, so how do I answer turbotax's question whether this box is checked or left blank?

They do not put unnecessary boxes on the form since it is NOT an IRA so it is not checked.

Military retirement income is not from an IRA so that you can answer No where asked if the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box is checked.
