My 1099-g form is laid out differently than your question are asking. Box 3 says federal tax withheld box 4 says state tax withheld and I don’t have a state ID or box 10 C

The payer of your 1099-G is most likely using a non-standard form with different box numbers. TurboTax uses the boxes as they are laid out on the standard form.

Please enter the below information that appears on your 1099-G in the following boxes on TurboTax:

  • Enter unemployment compensation in Box 1.
  • Enter federal income tax withheld in Box 4.
  • Select state in the dropdown menu in Box 10a.
  • Enter the state income tax withheld in Box 11

You can contact the payer of the 1099-G and ask that they give you their state ID number (standard form Box 10b). Sometimes, you are even able to get this information from the state website.

I did not see a prompt to enter Federal Income Tax Withheld on my 1099G - Box 4.

Where can I enter this?

Thanks,

Karen

My Federal Income Tax is in Box 4.

When I am filing my taxes on TurboTax, there is no prompt asking for the information in that box.

What is the 1099-G for?

I ask because it can be entered in TurboTax for different sources of income, so it makes a difference where it's reported in the program.

Form 1099-G reports certain kinds of government payments you may have received during the tax year.  It will report unemployment compensation, paid family leave, or the amount of state or local tax refund received in the previous tax year.  It can also be used to report less common sources of income, such as taxable energy grants and agricultural payments, among others.
