Maine state refund drops from $1,515 to -$644 when I enter military retired pay. Enter retired pay on Pension Income Deduction page, but state refund only goes to $441?

Your military retirement pay should carry over from the federal return you only need to enter it once again on the "Pension Income Deduction" screen under Military Pension income.

Did you enter anything else after the retirement income? This might affect the calculation as well. You can review your state summary by following the instructions below to ensure that the full military retirement is deducted from your state income.

  1. Click on "Tax Tools" in the left menu
  2. Click "Tools"
  3. Click "View Tax Summary" in the Tool Center window
  4. Click on "Tax Summary" on the left

Thank you so much for the quick response. Looking at the summary I can see where it does take the full amount of my military retired pay off my income. Appreciate you showing me where to find the summary. From there I was able to see the difference as I made the changes.

Sincerely,
Eric
