I also had the same problem. There is definitely a glitch in the software. My line 26d kept stating 6000.! Ugh.I finally put in -3000. and that solved the problem. Go figure!

This is a 1099R summary worksheet and you are limited to a $3,000 deduction as a Public Safety Officer, so you might have entered an amount greater than $3,000 or entered an amount for one 1099R and another one as additional amount and the two amounts total over $3,000.

To fix this you will need to go to Federal Taxes and EDIT the 1099R entries.

To EDIT pension and annuity Payments (1099-R)•    Click on Federal Taxes •    Click on Wages and Income •    Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)•    Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security•    On IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click the start or update button

Thank You for your response. The error seems to be do to having two distribution I think. I have a OPM (Federal Government Retirement System, FERS) and the other is a distribution from my Thrift Saving Plan (401K federal government investment account). If If check Public Safety Office in both inputs (1099Rs) then the system doubles the allowable from $3000 to $6000. This happens I believe even if I only input the dollars for healthcare on the OPM 1099R.

I assume if you have more then one 1099R only one shows the insurance deduction (payment directly from the former employer). But you check public safety officer on both inputs even though you entered the dollar amount one time

Thank you, I fixed the return.  The company gave a form for jan-nov and then one for dec.  The fix worked by only checking the box for 1 (distribution from retired public safety persons) , of the forms instead of both.
