It says I qualify for the dependent tax break but it doesn't reflect it when I go to check out. Anyone know if I'll get it or not?

I am assuming you have children that you are claiming as dependents on your return.  When you say check out, are you referring to paying to file your return?  If so, you would not see this there.

To see what dependent tax breaks you received you will look at your form 1040.

Start by looking at your Filing status.  If you are claiming dependents, one of the breaks is the Head of Household filing status instead of filing as single which gives you a higher standard deduction.

The next place to look is the dependents box.  Across the lines from their name, you will see column 4.  If the Child Tax Credit box is checked, then they qualified to be claimed for the $2,000  Child Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit.  If the Other Dependent box was checked, then they qualified for the $500 Non-Refundable Other Dependent Credit.  If you go down to lines 19 and 28 you will see these credits.

If you entered daycare expenses, then you may have qualified for the Dependent Care Credit. This would be found on Schedule 3 line 2.

Depending on how much you earned, you may have also received the Earned income Tax Credit.  This would be found on line 27 of your form 1040.

Be sure you have gone through and completely answered all questions in TurboTax before filing your return.  This will give you the best tax breaks.

If you have not already checked out, you can see your 1040 by following the instructions below.  If you have you can view all of your forms in the print center

  1. From the left rail menu in TurboTax Online, select Tax Tools (You may have to scroll down on the left rail menu.)
  2. Select Tax Tools
  3. On the drop-down select Tools
  4. On the pop-up menu titled “Tools Center”, select View Tax Summary
  5. On the left sidebar, select Preview my 1040

So I answered all the dependant questions and it said great tou qualify for the dependant tax break of $6,000 due to you have 3 kids and it listed my kids names. But when I went to submit and file my taxes it didn't reflect that at all. It still said the $3,000 that it showed after I entered my income. It never changed or added the $6,000. does that mean the IRS took that and I'm only getting the $3,000. It never did this last year.

When you entered the data for the child care and dependent credit - that is, your child care expenses - did you report that you had 3 kids (or at least 2)? The $3,000 is the limit for one child, the $6,000 is the limit for two or more.

Where (on what form and line) do you see this $3,000?
