Is there a way to change the format of my social security number? My federal filing accepts the hyphenated number but my state return wants it without hyphens?

This is for the UT form TC-40W.

The information flows from the federal into the state forms so the correction has to take place in the federal form.

Click on My Info, on the left menu

Click on Edit next to your name and make sure the social security number is correct, without the hypens

Scroll down and click on Continue until you are back at the main screen, to save the changes

Then the information should be corrected in the state form.

If the update did not solve the error message, please delete the current state return and add again, so it can pull fresh data from the federal return.

If this is TurboTax Online

  1. Go to the States section and click on the trashcan icon
  2. Confirm Delete
  3. Select Add another state button

In TurboTax Desktop

  1. Return to the federal portion of the return and on the menu bar select File
  2. Then click on Remove State Return
  3. Select the Remove button
  4. Select Yes
  5. Then return to the State section and add the state return again
