When TurboTax reviews my NYS return for retirement information, there is a box 12 that states 0.00. However, TurboTax will not let me e-file without an amount in box 12a. There is no box 12a on the 1099-R.
If there were no state taxes withheld, just leave this box blank, (not zero). Box 12a is for the first state withholding and Box 12b would be for the second, if any. Consider Box 12 in TurboTax as 12a or 12b. You can also leave boxes 13 and 14 empty as well.
