In 2016 I purchased a case of Girl Scout cookies for the cookie drop for the troups. Is it deductible?

I had a message saying because I received cookies, this is not deductible? I did not receive cookies. The entire case was donated to the GS Cookie Drop for military troops. I just read an on-line article from CNBC that it is deductible.

Yes, you can deduct the amount as a charitable donation as you did not receive anything in exchange of your contribution.
