If I removed excess of my roth IRA contribution, do I need to fill out additional form, or can I select "recharacterize" in turbo tax?

Since you withdrew the excess contribution instead of *recharacterizing it as a traditional IRA, here's what you need to do:

Reporting the Withdrawal in TurboTax:

  1. Click on "Search" at the top right and type “IRA contributions”.
  2. Click on “Jump to IRA contributions”.
  3. Select “Roth IRA”.
  4. On the "Do you have any Excess Roth Contributions" screen, answer "Yes".
  5. Add the amount of excess
  6. Continue until you come to "contributions withdrawn before date of return"
  7. Enter the withdrawal amount.
  8. TurboTax will guide to report the excess and the withdrawal.
