If I am retired do I still need to fill out a form, haven'tworked for 2 years. Filling out a self-employment form and paying $ seems ridiculous.

I can't get someone to call me to tell me if I can stop filling out tax forms.

Do you have income of any kind in 2022?  How old are you?  Are you receiving Social Security benefits and/or pension or annuity income?  Investment income?

It is possible that you still need to file a tax return, but we do not know what income you have been receiving since you retired.   You do not have to use the Self-Employed software if you are no longer receiving self-employment income.   But you may need to file -- depending on the other income you are getting.

You can downgrade to a lower version of the software, or you might be able to use the IRS Free File site when it opens in January.

Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free.  There are 8  free software versions available from the IRS Free File site

Generally, it is to your advantage to file federal and state Form 1040, even if you don't have to.
