If an employer (not the employee) contributes to a pension for the employee, where does it go on the W-2?

It seems the employee's W-2's wages in Box 1 includes the pension contributions the employer paid on behalf of the employee. The employee did not contribute anything into the plan. Where would the employer put this and is it taxable?

The employer contributions are not a required entry, but they may be in Box 14.  In most cases, employer contributions to a retirement plan on behalf of the employee is not taxable income to the employee.
