I took care of my parents and they paid me, but all the payment went to stuff they needed I kept whatever was left over. They are both on Social Security disability.

If my parents are not Social Security disability, and I had to take care of them for two years and supply them with some money, they paid me, but the money went towards creams, diapers, food, gas, transportation, etc. the rest was left over for me, which was very little. How do I do this on my tax form

You might be able to claim your parents a your Qualifying relative if they meet the following requirements:

  • They aren't claimed as a dependent by someone else.
  • They're a US citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident.
  • They aren’t filing a joint return with their spouse.
  • They received less than $4,700 gross income (except nontaxable Social Security benefits) in 2023
  • You provided more than half of their financial support. (FAQ)

Enter them as dependent in the My Info section and TurboTax will let you know if they qualify.
