I received a 1099-NEC form for a Service Award/Incentive award as a named plaintiff on a class action-how do I input to Turbotax online?

I read a past year suggested that I need to go into the forms view to click the 'Other Income' checkbox. I see no forms view and when I was able to view Schedule C, this box was not clickable.

The forms view is for the desktop version and you cannot directly change the forms in the online version. However, you can enter your 1099-NEC and let it flow to Other Income with the steps provided below.

Please follow these instructions :

  1. Open your return.
  2. Search for 1099-NEC with the magnifying glass tool at the top of the page.
  3. Click on the Jump to 1099-NEC link at the top of the search results.
  4. Click Edit next to your 1099-NEC.
  5. Enter past the information as shown on your form.
  6. On the page Does one of these uncommon situations apply?, choose This money was from a lawsuit.
  7. Your 1099-NEC will flow your income to Other Income (Line 8z of Schedule 1).
  8. Click on Tax Tools on the left hand side.
  9. Click on Tools.
  10. Click on View Tax Summary.
  11. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left hand side.
  12. Search for Schedule 1 - Additional Income & Adjustments to Income.
  13. A description of your Other Income and the amount should be listed in Line 8z

This does not work.  The amount does not flow through to Schedule 1.  I see a note saying Missing Info.  The system is not saving my selections:

-This money was from a lawsuit settlement

-No (Was any part of the lawsuit settlement for back wages?)

Each time I make these selections and hit 'Continue' it brings me back to the screen that says "Missing Info".  If I select Edit, those two items (not the other selections) are not populated.  The system seems to not be saving them.

Enter the amount in the "Other Reportable Income" topic under the "Less Common Income" section.  Use "1099NEC Settlement" for the description to tie it to the form 1099NEC.  Entering the amount in this manner will have the amount show in line 8z on the schedule 1.

  1. "Income" tab
  2. Scroll to "Less Common Income"
  3. "Show More"
  4. "Start/revisit"  the "Miscellaneous Income" topic
  5. "Start/revisit"  the "Other reportable income" topic

Also does not work.  My 1099-NEC does not allow my return to eFile.

Or were you suggesting that I should not include it in the 1099-NEC section at all?

Yes, do not enter in the 1099-NEC section at all. Follow the instructions by DMarkM1 to enter in "Other Reportable Income".
