I received a 1099-G from the state of California. It indicates my State return from my 2020 tax year. I took the standardized deduction. Do I need to report it?

I already e-filed and my federal was already accepted.  And i just received the 1099-G today.

Since you took the STD deduction last year, you can ignore that 1099-G.,

Thank you fanfare.  That’s exactly what I thought.  Just wanted to make sure.  Especially since I already e-filed and the federal accepted my return.  I appreciate the response!

Thank you!

But remember that for any year that you do use itemized deductions on your Federal tax return....you will need the 1099-G value included for filing the next year's Federal tax return.   Even so, it doesn't always mean the State refund will be taxable, but that will need to be calculated by the software.

Hi Steamtrain, thank you for the reply.

I have never itemized my deductions.  I have always used the standardized deductions including last year.
