I put down 1500 for my first stimulus check when it was only 1200.00. How do I correct that?

If you have already submitted your 2020 tax return electronically, you can review and update your 2020 returnplease enter your information here by February 6, to have your 2020 tax return sent back to you.  You will then receive an email from TurboTax on February 8, letting you know that your return is available and providing you with detailed instructions on how to review, update and re-file your tax return without the Recovery Rebate Credit.

I replied by February 6 and never got a response back from Turbo tax. I spoke to a lady via by phone and she said they were many people ahead of me.  She said I will get an email but didn't specify when.

I replied before February 6th and never got an answer. I spoke to a lady by phone and she said I would get a response with no specific date. There were many people ahead of me waiting on their emails.

If you have not already submitted your return, then update your first stimulus payment by following these steps:

  • Go to the search box in the top right corner and enter stimulus.
  • Click the Jump to link to go to the Recovery Rebate Credit section.
  • Answer yes to It looks like you qualified for the stimulus, did you get any payments?
  • At Let's double-check the amount you received, select no to adjust the amount received.

If you have already submitted your return and did not ever receive an email allowing you to adjust your tax return, then you may need to file an amended return. It is unclear at this time whether the IRS will automatically adjust the stimulus for returns that have been reported incorrectly.

  • To amend(change) the return, open your tax return. You will be at Tax Home.
  • Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents and Show.
  • Select Amend(change) my return and follow the prompts.
    • This will assure that TurboTax retains the original filing details to report in the first column of Form 1040-X before reporting the change in the second column and the updated return in the third column.
  • Once the Amendment is started, then follow the steps above to return to the stimulus payment section
