I live abroad and am retired. Why do I need to have a state listed on as 1099?

TT is flagging this as an error and will not let me efile my return

In the My Info section of the program you should have selected Foreign or U.S. Possession as your resident state.  So there would not be any state return required.

Thank you for your prompt response. I went back to the beginning and checked. I have a Foreign address was selected along with the DR as my country. It still flags the empty state field on 1099s and will not allow me to efile. They say I must file by mail.

Should I clear out my forms and start over?

@claude-ryan Yes, clear and start over.  Just remember when you are entering your personal information you will be asked for your resident state.  On the dropdown for stats scroll to the bottom of the list and select Foreign.  Also, make sure that you indicate that you did Not live in any other state and that you did Not make money in any other state.
