I have contributed to the teachers retirement system of al. for 15 years and understand that state taxes are not to be taken. did this 2022 tax return take state taxes?
However, there is usually a page following the main 1099-R form, where you need to indicate the Retirment pension came from some AL state employee or perhaps Teacher's retirement system.
(I don't know what exact terms they use for AL residents, as it changes based on what state is being filed, and I don't have AL software.)
No one else can see your tax return. You will need to look it over carefully for yourself. But, information flows from the federal return to the state return. If you have entered a 1099R for retirement benefits received in 2022 into the federal return, then the software will follow your state's tax laws pertaining to the taxability of your pension income.
